St. Anthony’s Church
Just before Christmas of 2015, Father Frank organised with the help of the St. Anthony’s social committee, a trip to Buckfast Abbey to attend a Carol Service. This had been organised by the ‘Friends of the Rowcroft Hospice’ and the celebrant was the Rev. Gill Still.
On arrival, Father Christopher boarded the coach and welcomed us to Buckfast Abbey. Most of us then had lunch in the Grange Restaurant and explored the gardens and shops before the Carol Service. This was totally uplifting with two solo performances by Julie Smith and the beautiful harmony’s produced by the Dartington Community Choir.
It has to be said that this was one of the highlights of the year and as far as the author could tell, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I am sure I speak for everyone in thanking Father Frank for organising and paying for a coach to take us down to Buckfast.
Carol Service at Buckfast Abbey
There was a Quiz Night on Thursday 28th January 2016. This was well attended and enjoyed by the 28 people who came. Thank you to Lynn and Chris for preparing the questions and for managing the night so well and to the ‘ancillary workers’ for their hard work.
Sunday Lunch at the Volunteer Inn
Sunday 7th February 2016
You’d be forgiven for thinking that the Volunteer Inn was just another quaint, well-
Originating as a small local pub, The Volunteer Inn is currently part way through a two-
It’s already proving very popular – and we can see why!
Sunday lunch at the Volunteer Inn, Ottery St Mary was attended by 39 people from St Anthony’s parish. They all enjoyed a lovely 3 course roast lunch with all the trimmings expertly cooked by Chef Jackie and served with quiet efficiency by the helpful and obliging Waiters. A box of chocolates, kindly donated by a parishioner, was passed around at the end of the meal for everyone to enjoy just before Lent began when some of us would be giving up chocolate.
Thank you to Rosalind Temple for organising it for us and a big thank you to Jackie and her staff for making our Sunday lunch so enjoyable.
Summer Barbeque at St. Anthony’s -
It has to be said that this years barbeque was a huge success with over 60 people in attendance. We all extend a big ‘Thank You’ first and foremost to Fr. Frank for enabling and organising this event and secondly to Ros Temple and her team including Luis Torres for cooking the food.
The weather was perfect, it being a hot summers day with sun and cloud. As can be seen in the photographs there was much socialising, an opportunity to chat and make new friends. It was also nice to be able to see old friends from the Holy Family Church in Honiton.
